5 Things that will make your helmet last long| bike helmet shop | STUDDS Accessories Ltd.

We generally tend to invest a lot of time in cleaning and taking care of our vehicles. But forget to take care of one of the most important gear – Helmet! The first and foremost thing for a good quality helmet is to buy it from a quality bike helmet shop. These helmets last long if taken proper care.
Replacing helmets may not be feasible for everyone, so following are 5 simple tips to ensure your helmet stays in good condition years after:

1. Regular Cleaning: It is essential to clean the outer shell as well as the inner foam lining of your helmet regularly. Cleaning of the outer shell can be done with a non-abrasive cleaning solution (which are easily available in any good bike helmet shop) and a cloth. The inner lining can be cleaned using a mild dishwashing liquid or soap with warm water. To remove the grease and dirt from the interior foam, a gentle scrub with a brush should help. This practice keeps your helmet neat and durable.
While cleaning, do remember:
  • Not to apply a detergent on the tinted visor as it reduces the ability to reflect sun rays
  • Not to squeeze the liner too hard as it may damage the foam
  • Not to use a glass cleaner for cleaning the visor
2. Dry it after long drives: A foul smell is usually developed in the helmet when worn for long hours. It is due to sweat getting locked into the inner foam lining. If the sweat is not dried properly, it may result in bad odour. So, after a long drive or during summers, put your helmet in an open place to dry instead of a closed space or cupboard. Also, avoid using a high-intensity dryer to dry it up as this could alter its construction and spoil the interior.
3. Carry it Right: When carrying your helmet, especially in crowded places, try to hold it firmly and correctly. Swinging it around may result in hits and bangs against the walls or other obstacles, thus damaging the helmet.
4. Avoid using your side mirror as your helmet stand: Using the side mirror of the bike for hanging helmet is a prevalent practice. But this may damage the inner lining of the helmet. Also, there is a risk of outer shell damage if the helmet falls. Thus, ensure to keep your helmet properly by sliding it on your hand through the chin strap.
5. Do not make it a storehouse: We tend to put our spectacles, handkerchief, gloves etc. in our helmet when not in use. These may be dirty or sweaty and may result in wear and tear of the foam. So, avoid using your helmet to hold such things when it is not in use.

Bottom line:
Cleaning is an integral part of the maintenance of a helmet. But buying it from registered helmet manufacturers is essential too. A quality product when appropriately maintained and increase the life of the product.
